This area covers part of the Southwell Business Park and the Atlantic Academy (formerly IPACA) but these are described on the next page north.
This area is rather poor farmland with a generally run- appearance. Footpaths are shown as red lines on the map
A footpath runs from the top of Sweethill [3]. This used to be a good source of blackberries in the Autumn. This provided me with berries when I went collecting in my lunch breaks from AUWE (now Southwell Business Park and the Atlantic Academy College) in the 1970s.
However, the blackberries are gone and the area is now occupied with stables.
It is curious how many stables exist on Portland despite there being only one bridleway on the island (Watery Lane). Luckily, Portlanders take a relaxed attitude towards horse riding.

A view along the footpath from the top of Sweethill as seen in 2016. Not a blackberry in sight!
PIGS
At the top of Sweethill was a paddock with some entertaining and friendly pigs - at least they were there in December 2002 but have since gone.

FOSSIL TREE
Near the pigs' pen is a large boulder which is actually part of a fossil tree. This is the largest I have found just laying around on Portland.
